Presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Peter Obi, yesterday, said that Nigeria would boom again, stressing that the power he seek is to enable him secure and unite the country.

He assured that if elected as president he would lead a country that will be the pride of every Nigerian.

Obi stated, in Enugu, that it was time to remove from the country a corrupt structure that has given it a bad name, enthroned hunger, starvation, bad governance, poverty and loss of confidence, as well as the mad rush for greener pasture.

Speaking during his campaign tour of the state, Obi said that his desire was to enthrone a new order that would serve the interest of Nigerians.

Addressing student and stakeholders at his alma mater, the Nsukka and Enugu campuses of the University of Nigeria (UNN), Obi expressed concern that Nigeria is sick and should not be handed over to a sick person.

To avoid plunging this country into further mess, he asked Nigerians to watch out for character and trust, pointing out that the identity of whoever wants to lead this country must be thoroughly examined with nothing to hide.

To the enthusiastic crowd at the Michael Okpara Square, Obi insisted that a Nigeria that will be the pride of the citizenry is possible with the support of the people.

Flanked by his running mate, Ahmed Datti, his wife Margaret, among others, he said: “We are tired of fake promises. We have more people living in poverty in Nigeria than India and China combined.

“We cannot continue this way. We cannot continue with the level of stealing, insecurity and suffering in the land. Datti and I are prepared to secure and unite Nigeria.

“We will provide security with the police serving with human face. No more police harassment. We will recruit more people at all levels of security agencies and provide them with insurance to enable them do their work. We will create jobs and maintain rule of law.

“We will ensure that our people are free to move about. We will create enabling environment for trade and commerce to thrive. Nigeria will boom again.”

MEANWHILE, the Obi-Datti Presidential Campaign council has dismissed what it described as fake and unfounded report of an assassination attempt on Obi, yesterday, in the course of his ongoing Enugu State campaign rally tour.

A statement by the head of Obi’s campaign media team, Diran Onifade, indicated that the video clip was a routine crowd control scene as excited supporters trooped out to greet him in UNN earlier during the day.
