2023 poll: I’m a Federal government worker, I’ve no sympathy for any political party, says Kano CP

The new Kano State Commissioner of Police, Abubakar Lawal, has declared zero sympathy to any political party interest, insisting the task to enforce law and order in the state would know no bound.

Besides, the CP announced enforcement of Operation Restore Peace as new tactical guide to stem the tide of thuggery and criminal elements in Kano. The new operational slogan replaced Operation Puff Harder.

In his maiden press briefing at the Bompai police headquarters officers mess, Lawal reminded that the police are Federal Government workers with no primordial interest to support any movement.

Lawal was reacting to question that raised concern prior to his deployment as the new CP to Kano. A political party has petitioned the Inspector General of Police to kick against the posting of a particular CP to the state, alleging possible political compromise.

The new police boss vowed to roll out full enforcement of Public Order Act to maintain that no stone would be left unturned to restore orderliness in the state. Although, CP Lawal stressed that no society exist without its peculiar disorder, he disclosed that tactical strategy is being renewed to drastically reduce crime and other criminal elements in the state.

He reiterated plan to strengthen capacity of the tactical unit and optimise the use of technology to detect and arrest thuggery, phone snatching, vehicle theft and other criminal elements rocking the state.

He said police would soon embark on aggressive sensitisation to keep the public abreast of public order while working with traditional rulers, religion leaders, civil society organisations and the media to promote peace and tranquility in Kano.

“Let me assure you that the police under my watch in Kano would restore public order and reduce level of criminal activities in the state. We are going to work with stakeholders, including traditional leaders.

“We would also strength capacity of our men and officers to get the best performance. We are building the capacity of our tactical unit to be more responsive and responsibility. We place more significantly priority on our community policing to compliment efforts of the police,” Lawal noted.
