The Anambra State government has confirmed that native doctors arrested for involvement in fraudulent activities, particularly related to “get-rich-quick” schemes linked to “Okeite” practices, are currently under investigation.

In a statement released on Tuesday, Commissioner for Information, Law Mefor, disclosed that security agencies are conducting thorough probes into the detainees, with plans to bring those found guilty to justice.

Mefor stressed that this action aligns with the 2025 Homeland Law, aimed at eradicating criminal elements and regulating traditional medicine practices in the state.
He clarified that while the government is documenting traditional medicine practitioners, it is not issuing practice certificates or registering them.

“The Anambra State government is committed to sanitising the practice of traditional medicine and ensuring that individuals who exploit unsuspecting residents for fraudulent purposes are brought to justice. Thorough investigations are ongoing, and those found culpable will be prosecuted accordingly,” Mefor stated.

The state government also approved several development projects during Monday’s State Executive Council meeting, including the construction of Nzam headquarters road in Anambra West Local Government Area, set to cost N801.5 million, and a project at Urban Boys Secondary School, Fegge, Onitsha South LGA.

The council also agreed to upgrade community-built secondary schools and integrate their teachers into the state workforce. Communities were advised to document non-indigenes without charging fees, treating the process as a social responsibility rather than a revenue-generating venture.
