Former bank driver and real estate agent, Mr Idowu Ayoola, is urgently seeking N17.4 million for a cornea transplant that will restore his sight, which he lost after radiotherapy treatment.
Ayoola told The Guardian that his blindness resulted from radiotherapy he received at University College Hospital (UCH) in Ibadan, following keloid excision and reconstructive plastic surgery at the Federal Medical Centre, Owo.
The surgery is scheduled to take place at Max Hospital in Gurgaon, India. Doctors at Max Hospital estimate the procedure, which involves a cornea transplant, will cost around $10,900.
The total cost breakdown includes $300 to $500 for outpatient management, $5,500 for the surgery itself, $500 for his stay in India, and $4,000 to $4,400 for round-trip travel expenses for Mr Ayoola and one attendant. At the current exchange rate, this totals N17.4 million.
He is appealing to government officials, celebrities, corporate organisations, and philanthropists for support to enable him to afford the procedure.
