A senior pastor with the Universal Reformed Church of Christ, Rev Emmanuel Chafa has called for the enforcement of the state’s anti-open grazing prohibition and ranches establishment law.
Chafa stated that peace could be achieved in Benue state if the political class and leaders exhibit commitment and the will as well as give the Benue Civil Protection Guards code named “Anyam Nyor” the necessary support.
The cleric also advised governor Hycinth Alia to engage with his Nassarawa and Taraba state counterparts where the herdsmen militia set up camp from where they launched attacks into Benue state.
Shading light on the age-long communal clashes on the Benue-Taraba border corridor along Kashimbilla and Anyiase settlement areas, Pastor Chafa stated that the second to the last boundary adjustment and demarcation which placed some Benue communities in Taraba State and vice versa must be revisited and corrected to forestall the struggle for resource control and territorial claims that result into bloodshed.
Meanwhile, Pastor Chafa appealed to the government at all levels, non-governmental organisations, donor agencies and public spirited individuals to come to the aid of the displaced victims of the Benue killings.
