Bus conductor gets three months jail term for intimidation

An Area Court in Jos, on Tuesday sentenced Smart Yahaya, 22, a bus conductor, to three months imprisonment for criminal intimidation and causing grievous hurt.

The judge, Shawomi Bokkos, sentenced the convict after he pleaded guilty to the offence.

The judge, who gave the convict an option of fine of N20, 000 also asked him to pay a compensation of N35,000 or spend additional three months in prison on default.

Earlier, the Police Prosecutor, Insp Monday Dabit, told the court that the case was reported on Dec. 12, 2024 by Mr Shanuhli Salisu, at the Laranto Police Station, Jos.

He said that the complainant told the Police that the convict and one Habu Abubakar who is currently at large, conspired and beat him up there by inflicting serious injuries on his right leg.

Dabit said that during Police investigation, the suspect confessed to have committed the crime.

He said the offence contravened the Plateau State Penal Code Law of Northern Nigeria.
