Makinde inaugurates airport upgrade committee

Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, yesterday, inaugurated Airport Upgrade Project Committee comprising of 11 members, to oversee the upgrade of the Ladoke Akintola Airport, Alakia Ibadan to an international standard.

Makinde, who inaugurated the committee at the Executive Council Chambers of the Governor’s Office, said the committee’s first task would be to draw up a preliminary action plan within six weeks before the groundbreaking ceremony.

The governor equally explained that the committee would consider in its scope of work passenger data analysis, site clearing, stakeholders’ engagement, procurement, general overseeing of the project till completion and other requirements in line with international best practises.

He also acknowledged that the vision of transforming the existing local airport into an international airport was not a hasty consideration, as his administration had envisioned it since inception; hence the laying of ground works which included 500,000 litres aviation fuel storage and dispensing facility.

The committee is chaired by a former Commissioner of Finance, Mr Bimbo Adekanbi.

Other members include Kabir Yusuf, Wale Babalakin, among others.
