No fewer than 582 cases of right violations, including Gender-Based Violence (GBV) were recorded in Adamawa, according to National Human Right Commission (NHRC).

Mrs. Grace Mamza, the NHRC state Coordinator, disclosed this to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Thursday in Yola.

She said the incidents which were the highest ever recorded in the state were committed between January and December in 2024.

Mamza identified family abandonment, domestic violence, forced marriage, abused of rights to dignity and GBV among the most violations recorded in the period under review.

According to her, some cases are already settled while others are referred to Ministry of Justice, Police, and Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) for thorough investigation and possible prosecution.

Mamza, however, assured the public that the commission was ever ready to fight against any right violation.

She advised members of the public to report any right violation related matter to the commission for redress and avoid taking law into their hands.

“We appreciate Executive Secretary of the commission for providing us with this facility and assured to continue doing our best,” she said.

Mamza, however, announced plans by her office to carry out sensitization on human rights for members of the public to understand the difference between abuse and right violations.
