Anambra approves new projects to combat flooding, beautify Awka

As part of the ongoing urban regeneration and infrastructural advancement under Governor Charles Soludo’s administration, the Anambra State Executive Council (ANSEC) has approved strategic contracts to enhance the aesthetics of Awka metropolis and address flooding challenges.
According to the State Commissioner for Information, Law Mefor, ANSEC, during its fourth meeting held in the Council Chamber, approved the reconstruction and fortification of the perimeter fence at the commissioners’ quarters in Awka.
It also approved the construction of two model gates at general hospitals, along with additional landscaping, interlocking, and fencing work at the Enugwu-Otu Aguleri Hospital compound.
The Council further awarded contracts for the repainting and renovation of the Very Important Person (VIP) stand and the reclamation and control of flood and gully erosion at the Cosmetics Market.
Recently, Governor Soludo completed the 16.5 km Nza Ozubulu-Ukpor Road in Ekwusigo Local Council, addressing the long-standing erosion issues affecting the people of Ozubulu.
The projects have drawn commendation from community leaders, who hailed Soludo as the “Solution Governor” for fulfilling his promises. The leaders noted that the road, abandoned by previous administrations for years, was constructed by Soludo within a short period.
Additionally, the governor delivered the 2.8 km Nawfia Road in Njikoka Local Council, connecting the Awka-Onitsha Old Road to the Awka-Onitsha Expressway. He also completed the 2.62 km Bank Road in Nnewi, which links to St. Mary’s Cathedral Church in Uruagu Nnewi.
Governor Soludo’s infrastructural efforts mark a new phase of development aimed at transforming Anambra into the “Japan of Africa.” This vision underscores his commitment to making the state a hub for businesses and economic activities.
This drive is also evident in the governor’s initiative to reshape Ekwulobia, one of the major towns in Anambra, into a cosmopolitan city. Among other developments, the newly constructed flyover in Ekwulobia has reduced traffic congestion, connected local businesses to broader markets, and improved the area with enhanced lighting.
