WOMEN farmers in Anvambe-Kusuv community, Buruku Local Council of Benue State are now beneficiaries of a new food storage and processing facility as the Christian Broadcasting Network (CBN Africa) has constructed and equipped a food storage facility in Anvambe-Kusuv, Buruku.
“The agricultural development project, which was funded with a grant from the Australian High Commission (through Australian Aid) was a part of the efforts to alleviate poverty in the rural areas CBN Africa Regional Director (Anglophone West Africa), Dr. Felix Oisamoje,” has said.
Oisamoje, who spoke during the official commissioning of the project last weekend explained that the project, which was a joint effort between Australian Aid, CBN Africa and the good people of Addingi village where the facility is located, was part of efforts to help Nigeria achieve the Millennium Development Goal 1.
‘The project is being carried out to fulfill the United Nation’s MDG 1, to eradicate extreme poverty and hunger and to assist the government at local, state and national level. The facility will also help to reduce crop wastage and increase overall productivity’, he stated.
In his remarks, the District Head of Mbakyaa, Tyoor Bunde Dam, thanked the Christian Broadcasting Network (CBN Africa) and Australian Aid for coming to his domain to help the people.
He urged them to ensure strict monitoring of the project so they could measure the progress of the facility and the community.
Giving the vote of thanks, Ngunan Addingi, also expressed her appreciation to CBN Africa and Australian Aid for giving the community the opportunity to develop.
‘The entire community thanks you for the good you have done here to reduce poverty. You have empowered these women to prosper by improving their productivity and the community will be better off for it’.
The food storage and processing facility, which is equipped with a cassava/garri processing mill and a rice mill with five-tonne capacity would be operated by the Dyondun Women Multi-Purpose Cooperative Society in Addingi village.
