The Committee for the Defence of Human Rights (CDHR), Kwara State chapter, has expressed condolences to the families of Nigerian Red Cross Society (NRCS) members involved in a fatal road crash along the Ilorin–Jebba road.
The tragic incident, which occurred on April 10, 2025, claimed the lives of several NRCS personnel, including nine staff and volunteers from Kwara State and the national headquarters, who were reportedly on official duty at the time.
In a statement jointly signed by its chairman, Comrade Lukman Olanrewaju, and acting secretary, Comrade Folashade Olabanji, the CDHR urged Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq to take full responsibility for the medical bills of the injured.
The group also called on the state government to address the recurring dangers along the Ilorin–Jebba road, describing it as a death trap that has claimed too many lives. It further appealed for urgent improvements to emergency response infrastructure.
While reaffirming its commitment to defending human rights, the CDHR demanded that first responders involved in the crash receive comprehensive medical care to aid their recovery.
