
Majority Leader of the Edo State House of Assembly, Hon. Charity Aiguobarueghian, has continued to play pivotal role in the legislature as he moved for the second reading of the Digital Governance Bill and Electricity Market Bill.
This comes as the State House of Assembly has approved five nominees to serve on the State Civil Service Commission., with Charity Aiguobarueghian presenting the nominees, who were thoroughly vetted by the house committee on rules, business and government house.
“The committee has scrutinized the credentials of the nominees, and they are now subject to Mr. Speaker and the House for approval”, said Charity Aiguobarueghian.
The approved nominees include Mrs. Lilla Iguodala Aluyi, Mrs. Ehi Obaseki, Mr. Gilbert Adegboyega, Mrs. Julie Olatunji and Mrs. Margaret Ehizuwa Ohiowele. However the speaker; Rt Hon. blessing Agbebaku directed that , clean copies of the house approval of the nominees should be sent to Governor Godwin Obaseki.
Subsequently two bills were also considered into law at the plenary, firstly; the Digital Governance Bill
Charity Aiguobarueghian moved for the second reading of the Edo State Digital Governance and Data Management Agency Bill.
“Edo State Government has gone paperless, and optic fibre cables have been laid across the 18 local government areas. This bill gives legal backing to our digitalized system,” explained Aiguobarueghian.
Supporting members of house on the bill included Deputy Speaker, Rt. Hon. Mariam Edekor, Hon. Sunday Ojiezele, Hon. Nicholas Asonsere and Hon. Richard Edosa.
In the same vein the Electricity Market Bill was also considered into law, with Charity Aiguobarueghian moving for the second reading of the Edo State Electricity Market and Regulatory Commission Bill.
“Edo State was among the first to receive licenses for electricity business after power sector decentralization. The Ossiomo power plant aims to provide 24-hour power supply. We need to repeal the old law and establish a new one for efficient power generation,” stated Aiguobarueghian, who is the Majority Leader of the state House of Assembly.
Speaker of the House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Blessing Agbebaku, directed the bill to the house committee on power for further action within one week.
