There was confusion at an Area Court in Ilorin yesterday when a woman, Mulikat Yusuf, slumped after her husband, Ishaq Abdulganiyu, insisted on divorcing her.
Abdulganiyu told the court that he was no longer interested in the marriage.
Earlier, Yusuf had pleaded with the court to stop the divorce, saying she was not ready to separate after giving birth to six children and had nowhere else to go.
Witnesses said she appeared lost in thought as she walked out of the courtroom after hearing her husband’s application for divorce, before suddenly collapsing.
Court officials quickly came to her aid and revived her by splashing water on her.
The presiding judge, Mr Toyin Aluko, advised Yusuf to explore all possible avenues to reconcile with her husband.
The case was adjourned until December 10 for a report of settlement or hearing.
