Court jails transformer vandal for two years in Bauchi

An Upper Sharia Court in Toro, Bauchi State, has sentenced Julabib Muhammed to two years imprisonment for vandalising an electricity transformer belonging to Jos Electricity Distribution (JED Plc).

The company’s Acting Head of Corporate Communications and Brand Management, Saratu Dauda Aliyu, expressed satisfaction with the conviction, describing it as a deterrent to others. She said the judgment would help reduce the persistent attacks on the company’s facilities, which undermine efficient service delivery.

“This is an answered prayer,” Aliyu remarked, adding that vandalism diverts funds meant for network expansion and strategic upgrades toward repairing damaged infrastructure, thus hampering productivity.

Aliyu commended the vigilance of the Toro community, whose efforts thwarted a recent act of vandalism and led to the recovery of stolen items. She called on host communities to actively support the protection of JED Plc’s transformers and other electrical installations in their areas.
