An Ado-Ekiti Magistrate’s Court yesterday remanded 42-year-old Christopher Israel in the correctional centre for sexually assaulting his 22-year-old daughter.

The police charged Israel with sexual abuse and assault.

However, the Magistrate, Mrs Olubunmi Bamidele, did not take Israel’s plea due to lack of jurisdiction.

She ordered that the suspect be remanded in the correctional centre in Ado-Ekiti, pending legal advice from the office of the Director of Public Prosecutions.

She adjourned the case until November 6 for mention.

The prosecutor, Inspector Olubu Apata, told the court that Israel committed the offence on September 21 in Ado-Ekiti.

He alleged that Israel sexually assaulted his 22-year-old daughter, who was visiting him, and also inflicted injuries on her while she was struggling with him.

According to the prosecutor, the offence contravened Sections 265 and 256 of the Criminal Law of Ekiti State, 2021.

The prosecutor urged the court to remand Israel pending legal advice from the Department of Public Prosecutions.
