CP Ojajuni seeks stronger community policing, intelligence sharing in Ogun borders

The Commissioner of Police in Ogun State, Bode Ojajuni, has reaffirmed the command’s commitment to community-centred policing and intelligence-led crime prevention, saying stronger collaboration with traditional institutions, local authorities, educational institutions, security agencies and residents remains critical to sustaining peace across the state.

Ojajuni made the remarks during a familiarisation tour of the Idiroko and Ilaro Area Commands, where he met traditional rulers, local government representatives, security stakeholders, academics and police personnel as part of efforts to strengthen partnerships and enhance security across the Yewa axis.

Accompanied by members of the command’s management team and the state chairman of the Police Community Relations Committee (PCRC), Abdullahi Lawal, the commissioner began the tour at the Idiroko Area Command, where he was received by the Area Commander, ACP Adejumo Segun Michael, alongside traditional rulers, representatives of Ipokia Local Government, sister security agencies and community leaders.

Addressing stakeholders, Ojajuni expressed condolences over the death of the Onipokia of Ipokia Kingdom, describing the late monarch as a respected traditional ruler whose contributions to peace, unity and development left a lasting legacy in the Yewa axis.

He also commended residents of Idiroko for maintaining peaceful coexistence despite the area’s ethnic and religious diversity, urging members of the public to refrain from spreading false or unverified information capable of causing panic or disrupting public order.

The police commissioner stressed that while traditional festivals, including the Oro Festival, remained part of the people’s cultural heritage, such activities must be conducted within the confines of the law and with respect for the constitutional rights of all citizens.

Ojajuni further praised the level of cooperation among security agencies operating along the border corridor, describing Operation Kosaye as evidence of the gains achievable through coordinated inter-agency efforts against criminality .

The commissioner later paid a courtesy visit to the Olu of Ilaro and Paramount Ruler of Yewaland, Oba Kehinde Gbadewole Olugbenle, where he acknowledged the monarch’s contributions to peace and security, particularly his support for the establishment of the 84 Police Mobile Force Squadron base in the area.

He assured the traditional ruler of the command’s determination to sustain effective policing across Yewaland while highlighting operational achievements recorded under Operation Kosaye.

Responding, the monarch commended the professionalism and discipline of police personnel serving in the area and pledged continued support for the command’s security initiatives.

At the Federal University of Technology, Ilaro, Ojajuni met the Acting Vice-Chancellor, Dr Akinde Mukail Aremu, members of the university management and student union executives.

The acting vice-chancellor praised the security arrangements around the institution, noting that they had created a peaceful environment for teaching and learning.

Ojajuni praised the university management for donating land for a police post, describing the facility as a significant contribution to improving security within the campus and neighbouring communities.

He assured the institution of sustained police visibility, intelligence-driven patrols, and prompt responses to security concerns.

The commissioner also inspected facilities at the 84 Police Mobile Force Squadron base, where he commended officers for their professionalism, discipline, and operational readiness, urging them to remain committed to their constitutional responsibilities.

The tour ended at the Ilaro Area Command headquarters, where Ojajuni reiterated the need for sustained synergy among security agencies, credible intelligence sharing, and active community participation in tackling crime.

He said the successes recorded through Operation Kosaye underscored the importance of coordinated security operations and reaffirmed the Ogun State Police Command’s resolve to deepen strategic partnerships and strengthen community policing in addressing emerging security challenges.

Ojajuni also commended traditional institutions, local government authorities, educational institutions, security agencies, community leaders and residents for their continued support, describing their cooperation as vital to maintaining peace, security and public confidence across Ogun State.
