Customs seals petrol station in Ogun smuggling fuel to Benin Republic

The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has sealed a petrol station in Ajilete, Ogun State, after uncovering its involvement in smuggling petroleum products to the Republic of Benin.

The station’s staff were reportedly caught filling plastic kegs with petrol, intended for illegal transport across the border

The operation was part of a week-long sting by Operation Whirlwind, a Customs task force operating in Zone A that also intercepted N30.3 million in petrol and impounded two vehicles used by suspected smugglers in the Lagos and Ogun axis.

Speaking on the seizures, the National Coordinator of Operation Whirlwind, Comptroller Kehinde Ejibunu, disclosed that the petrol station has been handed over to the appropriate government agency for further investigation and prosecution.

Ejibunu said; “Today marks yet another success recorded by Operation Whirlwind Zone A Lagos/Ogun axis, under the command of Assistant Comptroller MI Bello.

“This operation has yielded positive results in ensuring the availability of fuel in the various filling stations across the country.

“We will continue to ensure that all illegal routes of smuggling of PMS leading to our neighbouring countries are blocked by this operation.”
