The Delta State Police Command has arrested five suspects and recovered a locally made revolver pistol, as well as ten bags of substances suspected to be Indian hemp.

The spokesman of the Delta State Police Command, SP Bright Edafe, announced their arrest in a statement on Sunday, expressing delight that the force recorded significant operational successes in its ongoing efforts to combat crime and criminality across the state.

“On 30 May 2026, at about 5:30 am, the surveillance team, attached to Asaba Area command, while on routine patrol behind NTA Asaba, intercepted three suspects identified as Musa Sule (22), Moses Sunday (26), and Osama Ibrahim (25),” Edafe said.

Acting on reasonable suspicion, he said the operatives subjected the suspects to a search during which a locally made revolver pistol and other dangerous weapons were recovered.

The suspects were immediately arrested, while the exhibits were taken into custody and investigation is ongoing,

In a separate operation on 29 May 2026 at about 4 am, operatives of the State Anti-Kidnapping Unit (SAKU), while on an intelligence-led stop-and-search operation along the Onitsha-Benin Expressway, intercepted an ash-coloured Mercedes-Benz station wagon with registration number BEN 982 TE.

The vehicle, Edafe said, was occupied by Hilary Aloma and Oki Joseph, alias “Big Joe”. During a thorough search of the vehicle, the operatives recovered ten bags containing substances suspected to be Indian hemp, which had been concealed within the vehicle.

Preliminary investigation revealed that the suspected illicit drugs were being transported from Edo State to Awka, Anambra State, before the suspects were intercepted by the operatives.

Edafe announced that the suspects have been taken into custody, while the exhibits have been secured as evidence, with investigation ongoing to establish the full extent of the criminal network involved and to identify other accomplices connected to the illicit trade.

The Commissioner of Police, Delta State Command, CP Yemi Oyeniyi, has commended the operatives for their vigilance, professionalism, and commitment to duty.

CP Oyeniyi further warned individuals involved in the unlawful possession of firearms, drug trafficking, cult-related activities, and other forms of criminality to desist or face the full weight of the law.
