A family in Edo State is appealing for financial assistance to raise N11 million for the continued treatment of its daughter, Favour Augustine Emoshorame, who is battling Stage IV Wilms’ tumour, a form of kidney cancer.

Favour, whose father, Akhilo Augustine, is a civil servant in the state, has been receiving treatment at the Irrua Specialist Teaching Hospital, Edo State, but the family says financial difficulties have repeatedly disrupted her chemotherapy and other aspects of her care.

According to her elder sister, Blessing Augustine, Favour’s ordeal began with what initially appeared to be a minor stomach ache in November 2023. The family did not immediately realise the seriousness of the condition, but her health later deteriorated, eventually affecting her left kidney.

Blessing said Favour was taken to a laboratory in Benin City in 2025 for medical evaluation after her condition worsened. The test reportedly showed severe damage to her left kidney, prompting medical personnel to recommend that she be taken to the Irrua Specialist Teaching Hospital for further treatment.

A medical report signed by a consultant paediatrician, Dr Okosun O.A., stated that Favour first presented at the hospital in February 2025 with abdominal swelling that had lasted for about two years and abdominal pain that had persisted for about one year.

She was subsequently diagnosed with Stage IV Wilms’ tumour in May 2025.

The report noted that Favour had experienced several delays in receiving chemotherapy and had missed some treatment sessions because of financial constraints.

In 2025, surgeons at the Irrua Specialist Teaching Hospital removed her left kidney in an effort to save her life. Blessing said the family spent more than N30 million on the surgery and other aspects of her treatment, with financial contributions from friends, relatives and well-wishers.

Although the surgery was initially successful, Blessing said Favour began experiencing pain and abdominal swelling again a few weeks later.

The family is now struggling to meet the cost of her ongoing treatment. According to Blessing, Favour’s monthly chemotherapy alone costs more than N400,000, including medication and other related expenses.

“We have sold everything we have and spent everything we could raise on her treatment. We are appealing to compassionate Nigerians to help us save her life,” Blessing said.

She added that the family is currently unable to afford the continuation of Favour’s therapy and the recommended treatment at the Irrua Specialist Teaching Hospital.

The family is seeking N11 million to support Favour’s ongoing cancer treatment and related medical expenses.
