Edo woman accuses lecturer of abandoning her with twin pregnancy, japa to UK
A Nigerian woman has accused her former boyfriend, a lecturer at Auchi Polytechnic, of abandoning her after she became pregnant with twins. The woman, who shared her story on social media, detailed how she was left to navigate the challenges of pregnancy and motherhood alone after the lecturer relocated to the UK.
The woman, who posted her story on social media platform X under the username #dat_edogirl, revealed the painful details of her journey on Saturday. She explained how she fell in love with the lecturer in mid-2019, believing they had a future together.
“He told me about his plans to travel outside the country where his elder brother was,” she said, noting that the lecturer had expressed dissatisfaction with his job and was eager to move abroad for better opportunities.
In 2022, he informed her that his visa had been approved. Initially, she was happy for him, but the situation changed when she found out she was pregnant.
“When I told him about the pregnancy, he said he wouldn’t advise me to keep it because he was travelling and wasn’t ready to be a father,” she recounted. Despite his pressure for her to terminate the pregnancy, even suggesting pills, she refused, saying, “I just told him I wasn’t ready to lose my life.”
Unaware at first that she was carrying twins, she went through the pregnancy alone after the lecturer cut off all contact. “This guy never called, even once, or replied to my WhatsApp messages,” she lamented.
According to her, her pregnancy was difficult, leading to frequent hospitalisations. She eventually gave birth via a complicated Caesarean section, with one of the babies requiring oxygen due to complications.
After the birth, she tried to inform the father by sending a video through WhatsApp but received no response. “I did a video with my phone and sent it on WhatsApp to Kola, still he didn’t reply,” she said.
The financial burden soon became overwhelming, as her family struggled to pay the 233,000 Naira hospital bill. “My mum was running helter-skelter just to source funds,” she added.
The woman named the twins herself and continued to raise them alone, lamenting that the lecturer showed no interest in their welfare. Her attempts to contact his family were met with resistance; his brother in Nigeria blocked her after initially promising to intervene.
The situation worsened when she travelled to Ondo State with her mother and children, borrowing money from a loan app to confront the lecturer’s father’s family. Upon arrival, the lecturer’s brother intercepted them and took them elsewhere to avoid a public scene. When they finally spoke with the father, he refused to take responsibility and insulted her. “He insulted me and my family to the extent I started crying,” she recalled.
Devastated and left without support, she decided to share her story publicly, asking for help in providing for her children. “Please, if you know his family in Ondo, kindly help me reach out to them. The economy is hard, feeding, clothing, and the kids need to go to school,” she appealed.
She made it clear she is not seeking to rekindle a relationship with the lecturer, saying, “I am not interested in marrying Kola or having any relationship with him…I just want my kids taken care of.”
