As part of efforts to avert security breaches during the Eid-el-Fitr celebrations, the Delta State Police Command has deployed personnel all over the state, signalling both heightened vigilance and growing concerns over potential threats to public safety.
The Commissioner of Police (CP), Aina Adesola, ordered the deployment of conventional police officers, tactical units and other security assets strategically across prayer grounds and identified flashpoints.
According to a statement by the command’s spokesman, Bright Edafe, the move is aimed at safeguarding lives and property while ensuring smooth traffic flow throughout the festive period.
While the police assurance may offer some reassurance to residents, the scale of the deployment underscores persistent security challenges in the state, including cult-related violence and criminal activities that have continued to raise public anxiety.
Adesola cautioned criminal elements, particularly cultists and “mischief-makers” to steer clear of unlawful activities, stressing the command’s preparedness to respond decisively to any disruption of public peace.
He further directed Divisional Police Officers (DPOs), Area Commanders (ACs) and Tactical Units (TUs) to intensify intelligence-driven raids on known criminal hideouts and black spots across the state.
The Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP), Operations has also been tasked with overseeing coordination and ensuring that the security architecture remains effective before, during and after the celebrations.
The command called on residents to remain vigilant and law-abiding, urging prompt reporting of suspicious activities to the nearest police station.
Similarly, the police in Ogun State have intensified security measures across worship centres and strategic locations in 20 local councils of the state to ensure a peaceful and hitch-free Eid-el-Fitr celebration.
It also mentioned other places of focus to include prayer grounds, critical infrastructure, markets, major public spaces and highways during and after the celebration.
Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, stated in Abeokuta that the safety of the residents “is paramount” to the command; hence, it deployed its personnel to prayer grounds and other strategic locations to boost security during the festive period.
“In line with this proactive approach, the command has deployed personnel and operational assets in advance to strategic locations across the state. Special attention has been given to Eid prayer grounds and other places of worship, as well as markets, highways and major public spaces.
“These early deployments are reinforced with coordinated patrols, intelligence-led operations and surveillance to deter criminal activities and ensure prompt response to any threat.” he noted.
The CP, Lanre Ogunlowo, congratulated Muslim faithful for a successful completion of Ramadan and extends best wishes for a peaceful and orderly Eid-el-Fitr celebration.
Ogunlowo reassured residents of the Command’s firm commitment to maintaining law and order and safeguarding lives and property across the state.
He urged the residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity or security concerns through the command’s emergency lines, assuring the public of its unwavering resolve to ensure a safe and secure environment for all residents during the festive period.
