In a proactive move to curb rising insecurity in parts of Delta State, the Energia/Oando Joint Venture on Thursday donated security assets, including three Siena vehicles, 24 motorcycles, and over 50 radio communication devices, to bolster surveillance efforts across several host communities in Ndokwa West Local Government Area.
The beneficiary communities of Emu-Ebendo, Obodougwa, Umusam, Ogbeani, Isumpe, Umusadege, and Ogbole, all located in Ndokwa West, have long faced security challenges that threaten both local livelihoods and ongoing oil and gas operations.
Speaking during the official handover ceremony, Chief Operating Officer of Energia Limited, Bash Olademeji, reaffirmed the company’s commitment to the safety and well-being of its host communities.
He emphasised that the donation was part of the joint venture’s broader Community Social Responsibility (CSR) strategy and goes beyond the obligations outlined in their Memorandum of Understanding (MoU).
“One of our core commitments as a joint venture is to ensure the security, safety, and overall well-being of our host communities. This gesture is a token of our appreciation and a step to further enhance security infrastructure, enabling community members and local authorities to better protect lives and property.”
Olademeji, an engineer, also urged for ongoing dialogue between stakeholders, warning that violence offers no lasting solution to grievances, stressing, “Where there are issues, we are always open to listening. With peace and dialogue, more development will come”.
Also speaking at the event, Permanent Secretary of the Delta State Ministry of Oil and Gas, Mr. Frank Omoko, urged the communities to utilise the donated items effectively and in coordination with security agencies.
“These tools — motorcycles, vehicles, radios — are not stand-alone solutions. They are meant to complement the efforts of the police and the military. Use them wisely and in collaboration with those trained to maintain law and order,” Omoko advised.
Responding on behalf of the communities, Mr. Sunday Enewuzo, Chairman of the Community Development Committee (CDC) in Emu-Ebendo, commended the joint venture for its ongoing support and affirmed the communities’ commitment to protecting company assets.
“We see the facilities of Energia and Oando as our own. Any harm to them affects us directly. We will continue to safeguard your staff and infrastructure,” Enewuzo assured.
