Kofoworola Akanji, a Facebook user, was arraigned, yesterday, before a Lagos Chief Magistrate’s Court sitting in Tinubu Square for allegedly publishing, distributing and projecting articles and obscene content on her account against Nollywood actress and businesswoman, Lizzy Anjorin.
The 37-year-old woman was arraigned on three counts bordering on conspiracy, publishing fake news and defamation by the operatives of the Zone 2 Police Command, Onikan, Lagos.
The prosecutors, ASPs Haruna Ibrahim and SalihuKadiri, told the court that the defendant and other bloggers, now at large, committed the offences in Lagos from 2023 until now.
The prosecution stated that her offences contravened Sections 39, 57 and 150 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State 2015, and punishable under the same laws.
The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to all the counts. Following her plea, the prosecutor prayed the court to remand her pending the determination of the charge.
But the defence lawyer orally applied for her bail application, stating that the charges are bailable.
After listening to the lawyer’s submission, Magistrate WahabBalogun granted the defendant bail in the sum of N100,000 with two sureties in like sum, and adjourned the trial till August 21, 2025.
