Hon. James Abiodun Faleke has empowered farmers in Kogi State with agricultural inputs worth over N150 million to boost food security and support their livelihoods.
Dr. Tunde Arosanyin, Consultant to Faleke’s Agricultural Project, disclosed this during a training and distribution exercise in Lokoja.
He explained that the initiative, launched in June, was executed in collaboration with the Federal College of Fisheries and Marine Technology (FCFMT), Lagos, and Bright-tech Resources Limited.
According to Arosanyin, the project targets farmers across the three senatorial districts of Kogi State, providing them with sprayers, herbicides, seeds, liquid organic fertilizer, cash assistance, and other critical resources.
Beneficiaries also received training to build capacity in value chains such as cassava and fisheries.
“A total of 165 farmers from across Kogi State will benefit from the programme. Over 150 hectares of land have been cleared and prepared for demonstration farms, with motorized boreholes provided in some locations,” Arosanyin said.
He noted that the recent crash in food prices, while beneficial for consumers, had hurt farmers’ profits. Faleke’s intervention, he added, is designed to cushion these losses, enhance productivity, and improve farmers’ income.
“The project provides training on best agronomic practices, hands-on experience at demonstration farms, and cash support to address financial challenges. By equipping farmers with inputs and skills, we aim to strengthen food production and support economic growth in the state,” he stated.
One of the beneficiaries, Mohammed Haruna from Lokoja LGA, praised the initiative for broadening their knowledge of modern farming techniques and improving their livelihoods.
