A woman, Mrs Felicia Johnson, whose son recently died in a tragic incident in the Epe community, Lagos, in October 2024, has urged the state government to find the killers of her son to ensure justice is served.
According to an eyewitness, Ademola Johnson was beaten alongside his partner, Oladiran Olawuyi, by a mob for allegedly being in a gay relationship. Johnson died from severe head injuries, while his partner escaped and has not been seen since.
Speaking to reporters, Mrs Johnson recounted that her son and his partner were meeting at a hotel (name withheld) when the mob recognised them, dragged them out, stripped them naked, and began beating them for what they considered an abomination.
She further stated that the barbaric incident has left both families devastated, as Olawuyi has not been found since the attack. “Whether he is dead or alive, we don’t know,” she added.
Despite extensive search efforts by his family, Olawuyi remains missing. Additionally, Chief Aro, who intervened during the incident, commented: “Although I am not gay, I have compassion and empathy for them. It is their life; they should be allowed to live it.”
When asked about Olawuyi’s whereabouts, Chief Aro stated that he helped him escape the mob but has not seen him since. While Ademola Johnson’s family seeks justice, Olawuyi’s family still clings to hope that he will be found alive.
