Officers attached to the Gwa-gwa division of the Nigerian Police Force (NPF) have resisted a series of attempts by unknown individuals hiding under the umbrella of the #EndBadGovernance protest to attack the popular Gwa-gwa market in the Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC) of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

A visit to the market by The Guardian witnessed the presence of security operatives stationed at strategic places around the market to keep vigil and ensure that traders are not attacked and dispossessed of their belongings.

An eyewitness who identified himself as Okafor disclosed that the attempts started from day one of the protest but were resisted by men of the NPF.

Speaking with The Guardian, an inspector in the division, who spoke on anonymity because he was not authorised to speak on the matter, disclosed that the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) received intelligence about an imminent attack on the market to carry out looting and swiftly deployed men of the force to foil any attempt on the market.

She stated: “Yes, the attempts actually started on day one of the protest but by the grace of God, our men were able to prevent the hoodlums from gaining access to the market to carry out their activities.”
