Properties worth millions of naira were destroyed in a fire that engulfed a provision shop in Oyo town, Oyo State, on Sunday night. The incident occurred beside a petrol station in the Farade area of the town. Items affected included a refrigerator and other household goods.

The chairman of the Oyo State Fire Service, Maroof Akinwande, confirmed the incident in a statement, noting that the fire was reported to the agency at 10:45 p.m. on Sunday, June 24, 2025.

He stated: “The agency’s officers, led by ACFS Tijani Bamidele, were promptly deployed to the scene of the incident where they found a provision shop on fire. They swiftly swung into action and curtailed the fire from spreading to the entire shop. The fire affected the refrigerator and some provisions, but other goods worth millions of naira were saved by the fire service.”

Akinwande attributed the fire to heat generated by a refrigerator that had been left plugged in and unattended overnight.
