Lawmaker advocates child rights protection
LASACO Assurance Plc marked Children’s Day 2025 with an event themed “Nurturing the Future with Love and Protection,” bringing together schoolchildren, parents, staff, and stakeholders for a day of fun, learning, and inspiration.

The celebration featured activities such as art competitions, storytelling, financial literacy sessions, games, and performances aimed at fostering creativity and confidence in children.

Speaking at the event, Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer Segun Balogun said, “We believe children are the future, and it is our responsibility to invest in their well-being and dreams. This celebration is one way we show our support for the next generation.”

As part of its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) efforts, LASACO donated educational materials to children from low-income communities.

The Head Teacher of one of the beneficiary schools, Mrs Hussein, expressed gratitude to the company, noting that the gesture complements ongoing efforts by educational stakeholders in Lagos to foster strategic partnerships for improving student performance and creating a nurturing learning environment.

Reflecting its national presence, LASACO also commemorated Children’s Day through its regional offices. In Port Harcourt, the South-South Regional Office visited State Primary School and Azuabie Primary School, providing educational materials and engaging pupils in inspiring activities.

Meanwhile, in Ibadan, the South-West team celebrated the day with pupils and staff of Methodist Primary School, Akintola Ekotedo, underscoring LASACO’s dedication to community development.

The company reaffirmed its commitment to education, youth empowerment, and sustainable community growth as part of its CSR mandate.

At another Children’s Day event in Lagos, Kehinde Joseph, member representing Alimosho Constituency II in the Lagos State House of Assembly, called for increased focus on safeguarding children’s rights.

Speaking at the event organised by the Margaret Modinat Foundation (MMF), Joseph highlighted various laws enacted by the House of Assembly to protect children’s welfare and urged society to prioritise children’s protection, particularly against exploitation and child labour.

Joseph commended initiatives like the MMF, founded by Princess Olanrewaju Osibote, which celebrates less privileged children and promotes their welfare. “Protecting children is a collective responsibility,” he said, encouraging collaboration between the government and organisations focused on positive impact.

Osibote, the founder of MMF, shared her passion for giving back to the community, particularly in supporting less privileged children. “The event was designed to bring joy and excitement to the children. This year, we are determined to make an even bigger impact,” she said.

She also advised Nigerian children to focus on their education, remain loyal, and always tell the truth, praying they grow into responsible citizens who contribute to their communities.

Osibote called on governments, individuals, and corporate organisations to partner with those passionate about improving the lives of children in Nigeria.
