Flood control: Imo rep speeds up drainage construction in Ozuomee Urualla

In a significant push for flood control and erosion management, Hon. Ikenga Imo Ugochinyere has overseen rapid progress in the construction of a 1.2-kilometre hydraulic drainage system in Ozuomee Urualla. The initiative marks a key milestone in his two years of effective representation for the Ideato Federal Constituency.

Since his election in 2023, Hon. Ugochinyere has championed urgent interventions for erosion-prone communities, securing government attention through legislative motions. His latest action comes in response to growing concerns over flooding that threatened to sever a major access route in Ozuomee.

During a recent site visit, Hon. Ugochinyere emphasised the necessity of the project, stating: “My intervention measure to construct 1.2km new drainage just to redirect the water that is causing the heavy flood that is threatening or about to cut the only linking road. I am channelling the water once I finish the drainage directly to Orashi River, thereby stopping the continued worsening of the erosion while seeking and calling on FG, Works, NDDC, and state government to intervene to find a lasting solution.”

He further assured swift completion, saying: “The work which took off this week will run non-stop until the new drainage down to Orashi is completed. I made the promise when I visited the community a few weeks ago and now I am doing it like I did to the Umuchima gully erosion.”

With over 60 per cent of the drainage already completed, the project promises relief for local farmers and commuters by preserving critical road infrastructure and mitigating flood risks.

Hon. Ugochinyere’s commitment to proactive governance continues to drive development efforts, ensuring sustainable solutions for Ideato Federal Constituency.
