Former Senator representing Adamawa North, Ishaku Abbo, has urged political leaders and public office holders to prioritise mentoring and empowering young people, stressing that leadership is a continuous cycle that will eventually involve the next generation of current leaders.
In a statement shared over the weekend, Abbo noted that the aides, boys and girls working closely with political figures today will eventually rise to occupy influential positions in the future.
He cautioned that political elites must intentionally create opportunities for young people, as their children may one day rely on those same individuals.
“These small boys and girls following us today will be followed by our children tomorrow. Connect them to the top. Their quality is the same quality they will put into your children tomorrow,” Abbo said.
He explained that leadership culture operates in a cyclical pattern, those who serve today’s leaders will be the leaders tomorrow, and the next generation, including the children of today’s politicians, will depend on them.
According to him, neglecting the youth is tantamount to destroying one’s own legacy and future political dynasty.
“They carry your files, your children carry their files, and their children carry your children’s files. Endless cycle. Build the youth, build your dynasty,” he added.
Abbo’s remarks, as observed by The Guardian, came amid growing national conversations on youth inclusion in governance, leadership succession, and long-term political development strategies in Nigeria.
