In commemoration of its fourth anniversary, the Waka Community International Foundation has taken its advocacy for healthier lifestyles to the global stage by putting a Times Square billboard in New York City, United States.
Speaking on the move, which showcased the foundation’s global ambition, its founder, Lorenz Mba, stated that Waka Community has evolved into a global wellness movement spanning 48 countries.
According to the Nigerian health advocate and community leader, the programmes of the foundation encourage walking, healthy eating, hydration, adequate rest, and mental health awareness, inspiring tens of thousands worldwide to prioritise personal well-being. He added that Waka Community embodies a movement born in Nigeria but resonating across continents.
“Its global footprint now extends to North America, Europe, and Africa, where the foundation continues to mobilise communities around healthier lifestyles,” he noted.
He stressed that the foundation has become the first Nigerian non-profit organisation to independently put on a Times Square billboard in New York City.
Mba said: “The milestone marks a historic first for Africa’s nonprofit sector, placing Waka at the heart of one of the world’s most recognisable commercial hubs – 1560 Broadway, Times Square – where its message will reach more than 330,000 pedestrians daily and generate over 1.5 million impressions.
“This billboard is more than an information – it’s Africa taking its rightful place on the global stage. We are showing the world that African-led community initiatives can shape global conversations about health and wellness. Waka makes sense and now the world is watching.”
Mba disclosed that from the streets of Lagos to the lights of New York, “with this Times Square debut, Waka Community International Foundation is not just celebrating four years of impact, it is declaring that African voices and solutions belong at the heart of global progress.”
