Four suspects nabbed over transformer theft in Kebbi

The Kebbi State Police Command has arrested four suspects over the vandalisation of a school transformer at Government Girls Secondary School, Bunza, in Bunza Local Government Area of the state.

Police spokesman, CSP Nafiu Abubakar, disclosed in a statement on Saturday, that the suspects Sanusi Muhammad and Ibrahim Lawal from Sokoto State, and Tasi’u Abubakar and Tasi’u Abdullahi from Zamfara State were apprehended following a swift operation by the Bunza Divisional Police Officer and vigilantes.

He stressed that the suspects invaded the school premises around 3 a.m. on September 10, tied up the watchman, and dismantled the transformer using chainsaws and other mechanical tools.

According to CSP Abubakar “A black Toyota Corolla with registration number KNT-359-SN, believed to have been used by the suspects, was recovered at the scene, along with the vandalised armoured cable wires and tools used in the crime.
“While two of the suspects were arrested on the spot, further discreet investigation by the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Birnin Kebbi, led to the arrest of the fleeing gang members”

He further noted that the suspects remain in custody and will soon be charged in court for prosecution.

However, CP Bello M. Sani, the Commissioner of Police, commended the competence and swift action of the Bunza DPO and vigilantes, emphasising the importance of police-community collaboration in tackling crime.
