Gridlock paralyses traffic on Lagos-Ibadan Expressway

Two injured in crash

Motorists and commuters were stranded for several hours yesterday following a heavy traffic gridlock on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway. The congestion, which began around the Sagamu Interchange axis, reportedly spread towards the Abeokuta-Kobape-Siun-Sagamu highway and extended back to the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.

The gridlock left many motorists and passengers stuck, with some resorting to commercial motorcycles—whose riders inflated fares—to reach their destinations, while others trekked to less congested areas in order to board alternative vehicles.ar

Confirming the development, the spokesperson for the Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Agency (TRACE), Babatunde Akinbiyi, said traffic congestion during the ember months was not unexpected.

He advised motorists to use alternative routes and exercise patience, noting that the TRACE, police, and Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) were already at the scene managing the situation.

Meanwhile, two persons sustained varying degrees of injuries in an auto crash that occurred at Fidiwo along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway. The accident involved a DAF truck with registration number FST 746 YK and a HOWO (Dangote) truck with registration number BAS 222 XA.

Akinbiyi said the crash occurred when the driver of the HOWO truck rammed into the rear of the DAF truck, allegedly because he was dozing while driving.
