A violent clash between herders and farmers in Kukta, Waltandi district of Song Local Council, Adamawa State, in the early hours of yesterday resulted in multiple fatalities.
The Guardian learnt that the conflict, which had been brewing for several days, initially claimed the lives of one farmer and one herdsman before escalating into a more deadly confrontation.
Eyewitnesses reported that the violence erupted around 4:00 a.m. when herders launched an attack, moving from house to house and killing five people.
In response, security forces were swiftly deployed to restore order and ensure peace in the affected area.
SP Suleiman Nguroje, spokesperson for the state police command, confirmed the deployment of security personnel and stressed the urgency of apprehending those responsible.
“The Commissioner of Police, Dankombo Morris, has instructed the Homicide section of the State CID in Yola to conduct a thorough investigation into the tragic events of October 27, 2024,” Nguroje stated.
The Commissioner reassured the government and residents of Song Local Council that justice would be served, acknowledging the profound loss and grief caused by the incident. He directed officers to expedite efforts to apprehend the perpetrators.
