House on the Rock, a prominent faith-based organisation in Nigeria, recently hosted the 6th Annual Liberty Games at Kirikiri Maximum Prisons, Lagos.

Organised by the church’s Prisons Ministry, the event underscores the church’s commitment to supporting and inspiring inmates within Lagos correctional facilities.

The Liberty Games, a flagship event for the Prisons Ministry, aims to foster personal transformation among incarcerated individuals.

Pastor Joe Ulaeto, representing Senior Pastor Paul Adefarasin, opened the event with a message encouraging inmates to embrace their potential, regardless of their circumstances.

He emphasised the church’s focus on faith, empowerment, and community restoration, which define House on the Rock’s prison outreach efforts.

The event featured athletic competitions, skill-building sessions, and recreational activities, offering inmates opportunities to showcase their talents and rebuild self-worth.

Each year, awards and gifts are presented to participants, underscoring the belief in the intrinsic value and purpose of every individual. This year’s games fostered camaraderie and unity among inmates through team-building exercises to instil a renewed sense of purpose.

Ulaeto, in his message, noted that “the Liberty Games are part of House on the Rock’s mission to build bridges of hope, preparing inmates for eventual reintegration into society.”

He highlighted that beyond sports, the Prisons Ministry offers skills training and support, including vocational initiatives like the Tailoring Institute, where inmates acquire practical skills for employment post-release.

Assistant General Controller of Corrections, Lagos, represented by Controller of Corrections Monehin Olusegun, praised House on the Rock’s ongoing efforts in rehabilitation and reintegration.

Initiatives such as vocational training, legal assistance, and spiritual guidance complement the Liberty Games, forming a holistic approach to sustainable inmate rehabilitation.
