Nigerian Police Force

The Ijebuland Fish Farmers Association in Ikangba/ Agoro town, along old Lagos-Benin Road in Odogbolu Local Government Area of the state, has raised the alarm over the incessant spate of kidnapping in farming clusters and its environs.

Speaking against the backdrop of the recent abduction of five fish farmers and a nursing mother in the area, the cordinator food and farmers rights campaign and the spokesperson ijebuland fish farm Association, Mr.Eko john Nicolas disclosed that the deteriorating security conditions that led to the gruesome murder one of them at the clusters three years ago still persist noting that this underscores the failure of government and that of police to guarantee the security of citizens including farmers.

Nicolas demanded the immediate investigation, arrest, and prosecution of the criminals by Security Forces without any delay.

He further called on the state government to prioritize the security of Lives and property of citizens and pay compensation to the Alayo Fish Farm Kidnap Victims as they had to Sacrificed their Livelihoods to raise N70m Ransom for their Freedom.

” This event is meant to once again highlight and draw the attention of both the Dapo Abiodun-led government and the security forces especially the Nigeria Police Force, to the worsening security situation in Ijebuland in particular and Ogun state in general. You would recall that the last time we invited you about three years ago, it was on the same security crisis, and the gruesome murder of our colleague in cold blood by armed criminals, who also made way with his tricycle”.

He explained that the seeming failure, helplessness and ineptitude of the security agencies and the government at all levels endanger peopples lives, as kidnapping, robbery, and other forms of criminality now reign supreme and unchallenged in various communities across the state.

” Citizens, including fish farmers’ now live in palpable fears, as those entrusted with guaranteeing security seemed to have turned a blind eye to the plights of poor farmers, workers, and the poor mass majority, We condemn the alarming rates of insecurity and the apparent lackluster performances of the Nigeria Police, and the insensitivity of the state government”.

The fish farmers spokesperson called on the state government to take seriously the security of citizens, and equally demand the payment of compensation to the abducted victims who have been deprived of their livelihoods to pay ransom of N70m before regaining their freedom as well as arrest and prosecution of these criminals.

He condemned in absolute terms the conspiracy of silence by the Dapo Abiodun government and the police authorities especially the Lanre Ogunlowo-led Ogun state Police Command, stressing that they have kept mute since the sad incident of kidnapping involving five people took place.

“These abductions highlight the terrible insecurity crisis in Ogun state in general and Ijebuland in particular to a boiling point. It has again exposed the propaganda of the governor Dapo Abiodun government on the state of insecurity in Ogun state. In other words, this is contrary to the touted ‘watertight’ security in the state, which obviously is meant to deceive the citizens regarding the true state of insecurity across the communities in the state, The said kidnappings occurred on Monday 9th February, 2026, at Alayo Fish Farm Cluster, in Ikangba/Agoro axis, along the Old Lagos-Benin Road in Odogbolu Local Government Area, where a criminal gang numbering about six struck”.
