An Ilorin High Court has dismissed a lawsuit brought by Crystal Group of Companies Limited, owned by Hon. Moshood Mustapha, against the Kwara State Government concerning the remodelling of the historic Kwara Hotel. The court, presided over by Hon. Justice E.B. Mohammed, upheld the state government’s objections and ruled that there was no valid contract between the parties.

Justice Mohammed explained that no document presented to the court demonstrated that Crystal Group had a legitimate agreement with the state government regarding the hotel’s redevelopment. He emphasised that an unsigned or draft agreement holds no legal weight and cannot serve as the basis for any claims by Crystal Group against the government.

“The claimant’s suit against the Kwara State Government on Kwara Hotel is hereby struck out,” the judge declared, effectively ending the long-standing dispute.

The ruling aligns with the state government’s stance, which has consistently maintained that no binding agreement was ever reached with Crystal Group. According to the government, discussions between both parties had not progressed to the point of a formal contract that would obligate either side.
