The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Kaduna Chapter has protested against the composition of the membership of the North West Development Commission (NWDC), urging the Federal Government to consider religious and cultural diversity in the regional body.

CAN called on President Bola Tinubu to review the membership of the commission to reflect the true composition of religious and ethnic groups in the North West for effective coordination and successful implementation of policies and Programmes under the commission.

Kaduna State chairman of CAN, Pastor Caleb Ma’aji, made the call in Kaduna while receiving officials of the Northern Christian Youth Professionals on a courtesy visit for closer collaboration and understanding for future engagements.

Represented by Secretary of the Association, Venerable Emmanuel Okunlola, CAN said Nigeria is a diverse country with multi-cultural and multi-ethnic groups of which these factors must be taken into consideration by those in authority in the spirit of diversity and peaceful coexistence.

Ma’aji also reminded the Kaduna State Governor, Senator Uba Sani of the need to urgently reconstruct the Church, as he had earlier promised in Kuriga Community of Chikun Local Government where the church was burnt down and properties destroyed.

The CAN Chairman however called for patience and resilience with the difficulties being experienced amongst Nigerians under the present dispensation and called for trust in the government for a better future and national survival.

He expressed the hope that “the reforms being implemented by the Federal Government would lead to economic revival and national prosperity reminding all leaders that they are accountable to God their creator.”

Earlier, President of the Northern Christian Youth Professionals (NCYP), Isaac Abrak explained that the group is a socio-political group aimed at improving socio socio-economic well-being of Christians in the north and all Nigerians.

Abrak said that the group was among many other organizations that supported the emergence of President Tinubu because of his past leadership disposition in uplifting the lives of youth and poor people in society.

He urged Nigerians “to give the President more time and cooperation for his reform policies to crystallize and improve the economic well-being of all Nigerians.”

He commended CAN on its position over the review of the NWDC and the Kuriga bandits attack, adding that Nigerians must be treated equally irrespective of Religious, cultural, and ethnic differences.
