Kaduna gov appoints Bature Likoro as new Agwom Kamuru

The appointment of Bature Sunday Likoro has been approved by the Kaduna State Government as the new Agwom Kamuru, following the death of His Highness, Yohanna Sidi Kukah, on December 18, 2024.

A statement signed by Sadiq Mamman Lagos, the Commissioner of Local Government Affairs, on Tuesday, said that Likoro has been appointed as a Third Class Chief by the Kaduna State Governor, Uba Sani.

According to the statement, the new Agwon Kamuru was born on August 15, 1958, and holds a Higher National Diploma in Business Administration from Kaduna Polytechnic.

The commissioner noted that Mr Likoro wields considerable influence in his locality, due to his record of service and community development activities, during which he has interacted with several stakeholders.

The statement said that although the appointment is effective immediately, “all other arrangements for the installation ceremony and presentation of staff of office would be announced in due course.”

Mamman Lagos stated that Governor Uba Sani has congratulated the new Agwom Kamuru “for a well-deserved appointment and wishes him success and God’s guidance.”

Meanwhile, the governor has also approved the implementation of 70 per cent of the 2024 CONPCASS/CONTEDISS salary structure for staff of all state-owned tertiary institutions, marking a major step towards resolving a month-long industrial dispute in the education sector.

The approval followed a meeting between the governor and leaders of the Joint Union of Tertiary Institutions (JUTIKS), which led to the suspension of the strike that began on 30 September 2025. The implementation is to take effect from October 2025.

The meeting, held at the Government House in Kaduna, was facilitated by the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) Kaduna State Council and attended by representatives of Nuhu Bamalli Polytechnic, the College of Education Gidan Waya, and the Kaduna State College of Nursing and Midwifery.

The unions had demanded the implementation of the 2009 CONPCASS/CONTEDISS structure, improved retirement benefits, and enhanced welfare for academic and non-academic staff.

At a joint press briefing after the meeting, union leaders described the governor’s action as a demonstration of commitment to education and workers’ welfare. The statement was signed by NLC Kaduna Chairman, Comrade Ayuba Suleiman; JUTIKS/ASUP Chairman, Comrade Usman Shehu Suleiman; JUTIKS Secretary-General, Comrade Shuaibu Dauda Adamu; COESU Chairman, Comrade Nuhu Yerima Christopher; NASU Chairman, Comrade Mahmud Aliyu Kwarbai; and Academic Staff Union Chairman, Comrade Daniel Danboyi.

The unions confirmed that in addition to the salary review, the government had approved 65 years as the retirement age and 40 years of service as the limit for non-teaching staff.
