The Kano State Police Command has directed motorists to adopt alternative routes following the collapse of the Yaryasa Bridge in Tudun Wada Local Government Area, attributed to heavy rainfall.

The bridge, a critical link connecting Kano to Kaduna, Plateau, Benue, and other eastern states, has been declared unsafe for use.

In a statement on Saturday, the state police spokesperson, SP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, said, “The Command has taken immediate steps to secure the area. Barricades, detours, and warning signs have been set up to guide motorists away from the danger zone.”

Officers from the Motor Traffic Division are working alongside the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Kano Road and Traffic Agency (KAROTA), and representatives of transport unions to manage traffic and ensure road safety.

“The area around the collapsed bridge has been cordoned off to prevent accidents. We appeal to motorists traveling towards Tudun Wada and beyond to cooperate with traffic officers and follow the designated detours,” SP Kiyawa added.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, emphasised the importance of compliance and patience during the disruption.

“Safety is our priority. We are working closely with relevant agencies to reduce the hardship caused by this incident,” the statement read.

Authorities assured the public that updates would be provided as the situation develops and appealed for caution and adherence to traffic guidance while repair and assessment work continues.

The collapse of the Yaryasa Bridge highlights the vulnerability of regional infrastructure to extreme weather events and the need for coordinated emergency response to mitigate disruption and protect road users.
