The abduction of Mr Nelson Adepoyigi, the Ward 5 Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ose Local Council of Ondo State, has taken a dramatic twist with the captors detaining two individuals sent to deliver a ransom for his release.
The kidnappers, who had initially agreed to a N5 million ransom for Adepoyigi’s release, are now demanding an additional N30 million for the safe return of Adepoyigi and the two ransom bearers, identified as Bayode Loco and Isimeri.
Adepoyigi was abducted by gunmen outside his residence in Ifon at about 10:00 p.m. on Monday. The development has plunged his family and political associates into panic and confusion, especially after the kidnappers reneged on the earlier agreement.
Initially, the abductors demanded N100 million but reduced their demands to N5 million and food items after negotiations. However, upon receiving the ransom, they refused to release Adepoyigi and escalated their demands.
The Chairman of Ose Local Council, Mr Kolapo Oja, confirmed the incident, expressing concern over the turn of events. He urged calm and reassured the public that security operatives in the state are intensifying efforts to ensure the victims’ safe release.
