No fewer than 200 people were involved in the last Tuesday boat mishap at Gwajibo Mudi community in Kaiama local government of Kwara State.

Kwara State AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq described the tragedy as shocking and saddening.

At least, about 90 corpses have been recovered, while 31 have, as at the time of filing this report, rescued.

Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Mallam Rafiu Ajakaye, said in a statement that “the governor expresses deep concern at this devastating incident and sends his heartfelt commiserations to the Emir of Kaiama, Alhaji Omar Mu’azu Shehu and the people of Gwajibo on the development.”

Meanwhile, the governor has directed the state emergency management agency to join the humanitarian efforts for the victims, the survivors, and their families.

He, however, sent a high-powered delegation led by the Speaker of the State Assembly, Yakubu Danladi Salihu, to Gwajibo yesterday to commiserate with the families of the victims.
