The Lagos Food Bank Initiative (LFBI), in partnership with Itel Mobile, has distributed food and educational materials to 1,000 children across five schools in the Oko Agbon community of Makoko, Lagos.
This initiative, part of LFBI’s Education Enhancement Intervention for Food Insecure Students (EDUFOOD) programme, aims to reduce the rate of out-of-school children and improve school attendance by providing nutritious meals to students in underserved communities.
“We are trying to reduce the rate of out-of-school children in this community and increase their enrolment and attendance rate,” explained Mopelola Oladapo, Programme Officer for EDUFOOD.
“By providing meals, we are also ensuring they can concentrate and learn better in class.”
The EDUFOOD initiative operates on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
To mark World Food Bank Day, Itel partnered with LFBI to visit Mawu Madoka Primary School in Makoko. They distributed school bags, reading materials, and food to the children.
