The Lagos State Government has appealed to residents, particularly in the Ikeja area, to cooperate for the smooth execution of the Right of Way (RoW) for ongoing junction improvement works at Toyin, Opebi, Allen, Adebola, and Salvation intersections.
The Commissioner for Physical Planning and Urban Development, Dr Oluyinka Olumide, represented by the Permanent Secretary, Office of Physical Planning, Oluwole Sotire, made the appeal during a stakeholders’ meeting organised in collaboration with the Ministry of Transportation over the weekend.
Olumide explained that the junction enhancement projects are part of an urban intervention initiative derived from the Model City Plan, which accommodates population growth and land-use changes while complementing the ongoing Opebi-Odo Iya Alaro Link Bridge.
Olumide stressed that the government is committed to engaging stakeholders in open dialogue to foster collaboration with the community. “Active participation from residents and businesses is crucial for moving this project forward,” he stated.
Similarly, the Commissioner for Transportation, Oluwaseun Oshiyemi, highlighted the significance of a bottom-up approach in development projects, stressing the need for government officials, community leaders, and business owners to harmonise ideas.
Oshiyemi urged residents to exercise patience and offer support during the RoW stage, which might involve the removal of encroaching structures, to ensure efficient project delivery.
The Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Transportation, Olawale Musa, through Director Adebayo Osomo, added that the junction improvements would enhance traffic flow and safety, especially when linked with the Odo Iya Alaro/Opebi bridge.
The General Manager of the Lagos State Planning and Environmental Management Authority (LASPEMA), Daisi Oso, also appealed to residents to adhere to regulations, particularly concerning Incidental Open Spaces, to support the government’s urban planning goals.
