In a rare display of integrity, a Lagos commercial tricyclist, Mr Suleiman Adekambi, returned an android phone forgotten in his tricycle by a passenger, Mr Godwin Omoh, a staff member of The Guardian newspaper.

The incident occurred yesterday when Omoh boarded Adekambi’s tricycle from Jakande Estate Gate in Isolo to Toyota on his way to work. Upon reaching his destination, Omoh realised he had left his phone in the tricycle.

In a bid to retrieve it, he dialled the phone, and to his relief, Adekambi answered the call. The driver confirmed that the phone had been left in his tricycle and assured Omoh that he would return it during his return trip to Toyota.

True to his word, Adekambi arrived minutes later and identified Omoh by his clothing before handing over the phone. Despite Omoh’s gratitude and an offer of monetary compensation, the tricycle operator declined the reward.

Speaking with The Guardian on his exceptional act, Adekambi, who has been in the transportation business for over a decade, explained that returning lost items has become a habit born out of integrity.

“This isn’t the first time. The first incident involved a passenger who forgot their Microsoft laptop, which I also returned,” he said. Since then, he has consistently returned misplaced phones and other items to their rightful owners, often rejecting rewards.

“I’m not doing it for the money; I’m doing it from the goodness of my heart,” Adekambi added.

Even more remarkable, he revealed that he remains committed to his principles despite having his own phone stolen by passengers multiple times. “Even if passengers have stolen my phone several times, my goal remains to do good.”
