Lagos mobilises traffic management for Ifako Bridge rehabilitation

The Lagos State government has deployed officers of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) to key junctions and congestion-prone areas along the Ifako Bridge corridor as part of its strategic traffic mitigation framework during ongoing rehabilitation works.

In a statement yesterday, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Transportation, Sola Giwa, urged motorists to comply with traffic signage and instructions from officials to ensure smooth vehicular movement.

Giwa explained that the deployment of LASTMA officers was meticulously designed to guarantee uninterrupted traffic flow, streamline dynamics, and prevent gridlocks during the infrastructure intervention.

“Despite the partial closure of the bridge, vehicular progression beyond the Ifako axis remains remarkably fluid, with a sustained and orderly flow extending toward the Toll Gate and adjoining routes. This operational efficiency is attributable to the rapid mobilisation and professionalism of LASTMA operatives,” Giwa noted.

Expressing gratitude to road users for their patience and cooperation, Giwa encouraged decorum among motorists and urged them to respect traffic management officials.

He also cautioned against actions or manoeuvres that could hinder the ongoing reconstruction exercise or worsen traffic conditions.

Highlighting the project’s significance, Giwa stated that the rehabilitation of the Ifako Expansion Joint Bridge was a strategic investment aimed at enhancing commuter safety, fortifying structural integrity, and promoting sustainable mobility.

The project is expected to last 101 days, with work on the Ogudu/Ifako inbound Alapere section scheduled for 50 days, from June 28 to August 16, 2025, and the Ogudu/Ifako inbound Oworonshoki section set for an additional 51 days, from August 16 to October 5, 2025.

Giwa reaffirmed the government’s commitment to delivering essential infrastructure while minimising commuting disruptions. He advised road users to consider alternative routes, remain attentive to traffic advisories, and cooperate with LASTMA and relevant agencies for real-time updates.

“For prompt resolution of traffic-related issues, the public is encouraged to contact LASTMA via its toll-free hotline: 0800 005 27862,” Giwa concluded.
