The Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice in Lagos State, Lawal Pedro (SAN), has stated that the Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency (DSVA) awareness programme is not just an event but a reaffirmation of the collective commitment to eradicating all forms of Sexual and Gender-Based Violence (SGBV).
He disclosed this during the 2025 DSVA awareness programme held in Oregun, Ikeja, Lagos.
Pedro explained, “Sexual and Gender-Based Violence cannot be eradicated by the government alone; it is our collective duty that calls upon families, faith-based institutions, communities, the private sector, and every individual.
While commending Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu for his leadership, he noted that the governor has continued to ensure that justice remains both a top priority and a reality.
The wife of the Deputy Governor of Lagos State, Oluremi Hamzat, represented by Awlat Alade, commended the laudable efforts of the DSVA under the leadership of the Executive Secretary, Titilola Vivour-Adeniyi.
According to her, under Vivour-Adeniyi’s leadership, the agency has consistently worked to protect the vulnerable and eradicate gender-based violence.
The Commissioner of Police, Olohundare Jimoh, represented by Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Mary Anyim, stated that the Lagos State Police Command would partner with DSVA to uphold human rights and ensure that offenders are brought to justice.
The Chief Judge of Lagos State, Justice Kazeem Alogba, represented by Deputy Chief Magistrate Joy Ugbo, commended the Executive Secretary for championing the fight against domestic violence and sexual abuse in the courts.
The Executive Secretary of DSVA, Titilola Vivour-Adeniyi, stated that the agency would continue to decentralise its services and expand to other local governments by next year.
She identified some of the factors contributing to domestic violence as patriarchy, gender inequality, and socio-cultural influences.
