Lagos security fund adds 80 patrol vehicles, moves to refurbish 30 stations

The Executive Secretary and Chief Executive Officer of the Lagos State Security Trust Fund (LSSTF), Dr Ayodele Ogunsan

The Executive Secretary and Chief Executive Officer of the Lagos State Security Trust Fund (LSSTF), Dr Ayo Ogunsan, yesterday unveiled plans to refurbish 30 police stations destroyed during the #EndSARS protest in Lagos State.

Ogunsan, who spoke while briefing journalists on his first 100 days in office, said the renovation would be carried out in phases, with 10 stations handled at a time until all 30 are completed.

He disclosed that the fund was already engaging key stakeholders to facilitate the rehabilitation of dilapidated and damaged police stations to enhance officers’ working conditions and improve service delivery.

Highlighting achievements recorded within the period, Ogunsan said his immediate priority on assuming office was to strengthen the fund’s financial base through strategic fundraising and stakeholder engagement.

He said new fundraising channels, including crowdfunding initiatives, were introduced, alongside intensified engagement with private sector organisations, public institutions and individuals. He added that an LSSTF Monitoring Team had been set up to ensure accountability and proper maintenance of assets provided to security agencies.

Ogunsan also revealed that the fund injected 80 operational and patrol vehicles into the state’s security architecture to boost rapid response and visibility, adding that more vehicles were expected.

He further disclosed that a sole donor had committed to constructing a permanent office complex for the fund, noting that work had commenced and the project was expected to be delivered by October this year.

According to him, the fund also organised a high-level fundraising breakfast meeting that brought together public and private sector stakeholders, reinforcing shared responsibility for security.

Ogunsan expressed appreciation to organisations and individuals that made donations within the last 100 days, describing their contributions as encouraging.

He added that the fund supported tertiary institutions in the state with security vehicles and equipment to strengthen campus safety, and had commenced statewide repairs of abandoned Armoured Personnel Carriers to return them to operational use.

The LSSTF boss said the fund maintained regular engagement with security agencies in the state to ensure effective deployment of resources and improved coordination.
