The National Industrial Court sitting in Lagos has fixed October 29, 2026, for the hearing of a suit challenging the suspension of the Chairman of the Trade Union Congress (TUC), Lagos State Council, Comrade Biodun Aladetan, by the national leadership of the congress.
The case, NICN/LA/129/2026: Comrade Aladetan Abiodun v. Comrade (Engr.) Festus Osifo & 4 Ors, came up before the court on Thursday but was adjourned for the hearing of the motion on notice.
During the proceedings, the court also directed that all forms of harassment and intimidation allegedly being meted out to Aladetan by the national leadership of the Trade Union Congress should cease pending the determination of the suit.
Aladetan, who was suspended in February 2026 by the TUC National Administrative Council over allegations of anti-union activities, insubordination and conduct allegedly capable of bringing the congress into disrepute, is challenging the legality of the action.
In his originating summons, the plaintiff is asking the court to declare his suspension illegal, null and void. He is also seeking an order reinstating him as Chairman of the Lagos State Council and restraining the national leadership from appointing a caretaker committee to administer the affairs of the council pending the determination of the suit.
Speaking with journalists after the proceedings, counsel to Aladetan, Joseph Opute, argued that the suspension contravened the provisions of the TUC Constitution, violated due process and breached his client’s right to fair hearing.
The lawyer also alleged that his client had been subjected to harassment and intimidation through the deployment of operatives of the State Security Service.
The matter was subsequently adjourned until October 29, 2026, for the hearing of the motion on notice.
