The Lagos State Building Control Agency (LASBCA) has marked shanties and other illegally developed buildings in Itu-Mara, Mainland Local Council, for demolition to improve the area’s aesthetics and functionality.
The General Manager of LASBCA, Mr Gbolahan Oki, disclosed this in a statement yesterday. He stated that the removal of illegal structures was essential for planned and sustainable growth. He noted that the shanties served as hideouts for criminals, endangering public safety and that many of the structures were dilapidated and at risk of collapse.
“The current administration will leave no stone unturned in safeguarding the lives and property of Lagos. LASBCA remains committed to rigorous monitoring and enforcement activities to ensure strict compliance with Lagos State Building Codes and Regulations by property owners and developers,” Oki said.
He added that residents of the affected structures had been formally notified of the impending demolition through Convention and Quit Notices and urged them to comply with the demolition order.
Oki highlighted the government’s commitment to public safety and warned that legal action would be taken against occupants who failed to adhere to the demolition directive.
